DLP Birmingham 2023-2024

SEND Station has been part of Birmingham’s four-year Developing Local Provision (DLP) initiative to improve outcomes for children with SEND. We have provided primary and secondary schools across Birmingham with a range of training workshops, including Adaptive Teaching Maths, ADHD, Autism and Emotional Regulation, Dyslexia Awareness and Emotionally Based School Avoidance.

Our Literacy Junction® intervention played a pivotal role in transforming literacy support across mainstream schools. In the North West secondary network, it was embedded alongside assistive technology to support learners with cognition and learning needs. Led by the outstanding Nishkam School, this research-informed, coaching-based approach became a standout success of the DLP. With funding now concluding, Literacy Junction is being adopted into everyday SEND practice citywide, supported by the Delivering Better Value and Ordinarily Available Guidance frameworks. Pupil and School Support teams are now piloting the programme as a key intervention for learners on the dyslexia pathway—boosting literacy skills, self-esteem, and long-term life chances for SEND students across Birmingham.
