Literacy Junction® Project – South East Wales, 2021-2023

Five Local Authorities, One great project!

This intervention with the five local authorities that make up South East Wales (Blaenau-Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen) was designed to roll out Literacy Junction® and help close the gap in literacy attainment in young people with SEND, exacerbated by the Covid Pandemic.

Following a successful pilot of the LJ intervention in 2021/22 we worked with the Additional Learning Needs Transformation Leads to roll out the intervention to over 250 schools through their 36 Cluster Leads, who were trained in the intervention 

Our support included training for staff in:

• assessing basic literacy skills of individual pupils/students 
• an in-depth introduction to the Literacy Junction intervention
• advice and guidance on an effective delivery model for managing daily LJ sessions
• support to track and monitor progress post intervention and ensure the quality delivery of the intervention longer-term
