About this session

We all use visuals tools, signs and strategies in our lives to support organisation and make life easier - Visuals provide consistency and familiarity. Autistic individuals are generally stronger with their visual learning than any other learning channel, however visuals are useful for all children not just those with special educational needs.

This session explores compelling reasons behind the use of visuals to provide effective support. Using visuals at any age can make a tangible and positive difference in the way Autistic children cope, process information and deal with the world around them.

This informative session includes with many strategies and suggestions to promote effective practice in both classroom and home settings. It is useful to both parents and practitioners.

Session Leader: Nicola Durrant

This session is led by Nicola Durrant, an Autism Specialist Teacher and Consultant as well as being a Mum to an amazing Autistic daughter. She worked as a SENCO for eight years and a specialist advisor for 13 years while also training as dyslexia assessor and gaining a Master’s degree in Autism. As an independent specialist teacher Nicola has a proven track record of first-class support and advice for parents and teachers and is a Director of SEND Station.
