About this session
Do you work with children who don’t seem to understand instructions in the classroom?
Do they often wait and watch their peers before leaving the carpet themselves?
Do they sometimes look a little lost when you’ve asked them to start a task?
Do you have children who have lots to say but you find yourself having to work hard to understand their message, filling in the gaps for them?
Do you work with children who use, “thingy”, “erm…”, “you know…that place…”, when they are trying to tell you things?
Communication is fundamental to the well-being and development of all children. 10% of children in the UK will have a speech, language and/or communication difficulty (SLCN). This session explores the different presentations SLCN as well as providing effective practical strategies for children in both home and school.
In this session we will consider what is SLCN is, including looking at the Developmental Language Disorder diagnosis, and explore about how these difficulties impact on participation in the classroom. We will cover practical strategies and activities that can be implemented within school and home routines and will support these children’s confidence and communication skills.
There is also a question-and-answer session built in for you to raise specific issues.
